Malta is a country that is bursting with history and beauty around every corner. The entire country looks and feels like you’re opening the pages of a history book. The colourful wooden balconies that jut out from the sides of buildings, the intricate and quirky door knockers that adorn almost every single door and not to mention visiting the walled fortress city of Mdina, which transports you into the Medieval era as soon as you approach the large sandstone gate to the city.

Commonly referred to as the Pearl of the Mediterranean Sea, Malta is highly underrated as a European destination by many, mainly because most travellers have either never heard of Malta and if they have, they aren’t familiar with what there is to do and see there. It’s unfortunate because Malta is chalk full of wonderful beauty, both in its scenery and people. With hot and dry summers, humid spring weather and cooler, yet mild winters, anytime of year is a good time to visit Malta!

I was even fortunate enough to visit the famous Azure Window before its collapse literally a month after my return. Today, visitors still go to the site to see where the beautiful arch once stood, as well as dive deep below to sea’s surface to catch a glimpse of it under water.

Although I was situated in Malta for a week, I could have easily stayed longer to explore more of the lesser known little villages and hidden gems around the islands. I can honestly say that Malta became one of my favourite places with its uniqueness and raw beauty and is definitely a place that I’ll be returning to.
